Total Transformation!
POSTED BY MARLOES ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 2010 IN TV/MOVIE
Every actor someday plays in a movie for which he has to sit in a chair for hours while they’re getting poked and painted. After all the poking and painting, they made a complete transformation. I think its fun to see the differences, before and after photo’s. It’s worth it to see these stars’ characters transformations in some of the finest examples of makeup artistry, special effects, and costume design.¬†I’ve found some pictures of some actors and I was wondering which transformation you girls like the best. So please vote on your favorite!
Here you see John Travolta, when he was in the movie ‘Hairspray’. He had to sit 4-5 hours a day in the makeup chair!
John’s transformation into Edna Turnblad included a fat suit, wig, and plenty of makeup.
This man, Ralph Fiennes,¬†doesn’t¬†own¬†a really famous face without makeup, but you probably all know him as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, or Lord voldemort.
“The makeup is quite simple and strong in its design,” Fiennes said in an interview. “I wanted to wear as little makeup as possible, to be free to move. The idea is that Voldemort has just gotten this new skin. He’s new in this bod, so he’s testing it, relishing the power of it.” The acotr had to shave his head, arms and chest to play the role.
This is John Matusak as Sloth in ‘The Goonies’. He had to sit for 5 hours a day in the makeup chair. He looks really funny don’t you think? His hanging eye wasn’t real of course, but they put a fake eye in there, and they could move it by remote control. This is a really weird, but well performed¬†transformation I think…
These chicks are Marlon and Shawn Wayans in the movie ‘White Chicks’. They had to sit for more then 7 hours a day in the makeup chair! That’s crazy!
You all can see that turning them white was a hard job. They developed a water-based acrylic paint in a bright orangey-red that they airbrushed on them. Their noses were made out of plastic that covered the whole nose. I think they look funny!
Robert Downey Jr. had to transform the other way around for his role in the movie ‘Tropic Thunder’.
‘I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew I was going to be in special effects makeup. So I was either going to be really sorry I did this movie, or relatively happy that I participated in this.’ Downey said in an interview. ‘I thought that the whole idea was wildly controversial, and that maybe I shouldn’t take my act on the road. But when I put on the makeup, it was one of those trasformative, dumb-ass, self-important actor moments.’
Johnny Depp in ‘Alice in Wonderland’. As Johnny put it, ‘it was a couple of solid hours in the makeup chair everyday but it really helped. You start to understand who the guy is through all that weird kind of Carrot Top kabuki’.
Helena Bonham Carter in ‘Alice in Wonderland’. She had to sit in the makeup chair for 3 hours a day. Makeup artist Vallie O’Reilly slatherd Helena in white powder, blue eyeshadow, painted eyebrows, and heart-shaped lips to transform her into the Red Queen. With special effects the team enlarged her head. She looks so cool!
Brad Pitt in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’. This movie is widely considered one of the most impressive works of special effects genius. The film, which won an Oscar for Achievement in visual Effects, managed to show the backwards-aging process of the little character, played by Brad Pitt. They had made a mold of Brad’s head and then the sculped it to an 80 year old guy. Well, they did a fine job, Brad Pitt doesn’t look like the young man he is nowadays…
And last but not least: Jim Carrey in ‘Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas’. His time in the makeup chair: 4 hours to apply the makeup and an hour to remove the makeup, each day for five months! For his role as the Grinch, Jim Carrey endured five months of a hair suit, consisting of individually dyed yak hairs hand swen onto a lycra spandex suit. The suit took 4 months to make!
‘There was no skin to be had,’ Jim said in an interview. ‘Literally everthing was covered. It was impossible to scratch your nose. It was a lesson in Zen.’
Well girls, lets vote!
