‘Natural’ Tan or Carrot-Color?
POSTED BY ADMIN ON 12TH JANUARY 2010 IN LIFESTYLE
Until a couple of months ago, a (sun-)tanned skin was considered beautiful (not to call it a hype). Now Hollywood seems to have a new trend: a lily-white skin. For all of you out there who like the latest craze of the celebs this article might be irrelevant, but for everyone who, like me, still likes a tanned skin, this can be of some help. It so happens that a ‘natural’ tan is not that easily created with tanning lotion. A good result is achieved when following the next four steps:
1. Prepare your skin
Scrub your skin to get the best result, but you can do fine without. Do make sure your skin is hydrated. If it is not, use body lotion to make your skin moisturized; otherwise your skin will absorb too much tanning lotion (which will make you turn rather orange). Watch out: body parts such as knees, ankles, and elbows always absorb more lotion. So if don’t want them to turn orange, first rub in all dry parts of your skin with body lotion.
2. Spread it out well
To achieve a natural and smooth skin color make sure you use little amounts of tanning lotion and spread it out very well, so you won’t get striped. To get a darker color, just use the tanning lotion more often, so you will gradually bronze (NB: you cannot use it everyday! Check the wrapping of the product you use.). Make sure you don’t miss a spot, but avoid the skin around the eyes, the eyebrows and the hairline.
3. Wash your hands carefully
When you are finished, wash your hands a couple of times with some good soap. Do not forget to scrub your nails and cuticles; otherwise your hands will get orange.
4. Getting dressed
Wait about 15 minutes before you put on any clothes. After that, tanning lotions need time (a couple of hours) to soak in, so avoid water in these hours. Of course, not all tanning lotions are of the same quality. I have used 3-in1 Shimmering Sunless Tanning Care of Yves Rocher. It gave me a nice tan and it smelled good.
